Proposal to Remove Confederate Monument Preposterous: Enslaving Blacks Today By Lt. Commander William M. Hayes The proposal by the Rev. Louis Coleman and the Justice Resource Center to remove the Confederate Monument is preposterous. It is a memorial to the Confederate dead of Kentucky and the South erected over 100 years ago. It is not a monument symbolizing slavery. If Coleman and the Justice Resource Center want to do something about eliminating slavery, they should take a look at what is enslaving blacks in Louisville today. It certainly is not the Confederate Monument, but drug use, black-on-black violence, and a breakdown in the traditional black family. I suggest that Coleman and the Justice Resource Center expend their energies on issues that have meaning for our black citizens today and not worry about a memorial to dead soldiers that is to become a relevant part of Freedom Park.
